The State Geological Service opens access to the map of Ukraine’s mineral resources

13 January 2018

The State Geological Service of Ukraine opened access to the public map of Ukraine’s mineral resources: the portal contains information regarding 20 thousand deposits and 117 types of extractable minerals found in our country.

This data array, which Ukrainian geologists have been accumulating for several decades, has been opened for the first time and is freely accessible at http://minerals-ua.info/.

The implementation of this project became possible thanks to cooperation between the State Geological Information Fund of Ukraine subordinated to the State Geological Service of Ukraine and the Geological Survey of Norway under the European Integration of Mineral Raw Materials Data (EIMIDA) project.

According to the Acting Chairman of the State Geological Service of Ukraine Oleh Kyryliuk, the main objective of this project is to increase the extent of open geological information in Ukraine and enable access to it by a wide circle of users, including English-speaking ones.

“In fact, creation of the Mineral Resources of Ukraine website brought our country closer to civilized countries in geological sphere,” Oleh Kyryliuk emphasized.

The content of the website is filled with information retrieved directly from the databases of the State Cadaster of Mineral Deposits and Occurrences, the State Water Cadaster (groundwater), the State Balance of Mineral Reserves, special extraction permits and the electronic catalog of the archive of geological materials.

The cooperation between the State Geological Service of Ukraine, State Geological Information Fund of Ukraine and Geological Survey of Norway has begun in 2012. The main purpose of this cooperation is to help Ukraine with adopting European standards on mineral resources while increasing transparency and openness in this sphere.
