Minister of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine Ihor Nasalyk reminded to the energy generating companies that as from January 1, 2018, the use of fuel oil with a sulfur content exceeding 1% will be forbidden.
"On this occasion, I would like to tell all the energy generating companies that as from January 1, 2018, the fuel oil in all the contracts must have the content of sulfur no more than 1%", he said on Monday during the teleconference on the issues of preparing for the heating season in Kyiv.
As previously reported, at the end of December, 2016 the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine made amendments to the technical regulation, extending until December 31, 2017 the production and consumption of fuel oil with a sulfur content exceeding 1% for its use by heat power plants, combined heat and power plants, and boiler facilities at stationary heat and power systems.
The production and consumption of fuel oil with a sulfur content exceeding 1% was extended due to the necessity for the electric power plants to accumulate the required volumes of fuel oil and ensure a stable heating season. Before that, the technical regulation provided that the burning of fuel oil with a sulfur content exceeding 1% would be forbidden as from January 1, 2017.
