Ukraine and the World Bank are strengthening cooperation in restoring and reforming the energy sector.
This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Energy following the meeting between Minister Svitlana Grinchuk and the World Bank's Regional Director for Eastern Europe, Robert Som.
It is noted that the parties discussed key areas of reconstruction and development of the Ukrainian energy sector. In particular, the topic was the restoration and protection of energy infrastructure, the creation of equipment reserves for operational repairs, the development of the scientific potential of the Chernobyl NPP, as well as the implementation of current and new projects in the energy sector.
"Cooperation with the World Bank is extremely important for the restoration of the Ukrainian energy sector and its modernization in accordance with European standards. Joint projects are aimed at strengthening the resilience of the energy system, protecting infrastructure from attacks, and developing renewable energy sources. We highly appreciate the support of the World Bank, which allows us to respond promptly to challenges and move towards a sustainable energy future," Svitlana Hrynchuk noted.
The parties agreed on:
- raising financing for the purchase of equipment necessary for a prompt response to damage caused by Russian attacks;
- developing renewable energy sources and distributed generation, in particular by attracting grants and investments;
- deepening cooperation in the field of nuclear energy, including research and innovative solutions;
- continuation of the implementation of the Re-Power project, which involves the purchase of equipment, construction of protective structures and development of distributed generation;
- launch of a new project of the World Bank and PrJSC "Ukrhydroenergo", aimed at increasing the flexibility of the energy system, developing energy storage and supporting the decarbonization process;
- further implementation of reforms in the sector, in particular European integration, improving corporate governance and creating favorable conditions for the development of renewable energy.
The World Bank confirmed that the energy sector remains among the priorities of its activities in Ukraine, and the bank's team will be expanded to strengthen technical and expert support.
