Minister of Energy Herman Galushchenko spoke in the Verkhovna Rada about the preparation of generation facilities for the heating season
The Ministry of Energy is taking all necessary measures to ensure the passage of the autumn-winter period (AWP) of 2025/2026.
This was stated by the Minister of Energy of Ukraine Herman Galushchenko during the Question Hour to the Government in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on June 20, according to a statement from the press service of the Ministry of Energy.
He assured that today the system is operating in a stable mode, consumers are provided with the necessary electricity. But the situation is complicated, given the unprecedented attacks by the enemy on the power system, which took place over the past year and continue today.
Regarding the composition of generating capacities of the energy system balance, the minister reported that the key load for the next heating season will be borne by nuclear generation, which generated up to 60% of all electricity during peak hours. At the same time, as in the previous heating season, measures are being taken to ensure that all 9 nuclear reactors in the territory controlled by Ukraine operate in the emergency mode.
"Important: we planned the repairs so that during the OPR, all 9 units located in Ukrainian-controlled territory would operate at full capacity. This was also the case during the previous heating season. Therefore, the issue of the stability of providing and maintaining the power system even under attacks is very important," emphasized Herman Galushchenko.
Regarding thermal generation, the official recalled that it has significant losses due to significant attacks that have been ongoing since 2022. At the same time, according to him, repair work is ongoing 24/7, and more than 5 GW has already been restored.
"Today, the repair campaign has not stopped for a single day. That is, a repair campaign is underway at generation facilities 24/7. And we also increased our generation from 10 damaged or destroyed GW during March 2024 to March 2025. In fact, we have already restored more than 5 GW, already about 6 GW. And we have an appropriate restoration plan - to restore more by the end of the year, for security reasons I cannot name the information. All these measures will make it possible to ensure balancing of the energy system. In particular, to ensure the supply of electricity during peak load hours," said Herman Galushchenko.
Hydropower also has suffered major losses due to massive strikes, but by the heating season, the minister says, "we will reach maximum possible capacity."
As reported by "Ukrainian Energy", at least 4.6 billion cubic meters of imported fuel will be pumped into Ukrainian underground gas storage facilities (UGS) for the 2025/2026 heating season. This was stated by Energy Minister Herman Galushchenko during the Government Question Hour in the Verkhovna Rada on June 20.
