30 July 2025

The SBU and intelligence are tasked with identifying and establishing the facts of the use of such vessels. The state register of sanctions must include data on all entities subject to sanctions

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has signed a law imposing sanctions on ships and aircraft involved, in particular, in the Russian shadow transportation of oil and petroleum products.

This was reported on the website of the Verkhovna Rada.

The relevant law provides for the imposition of sanctions on sea and aircraft vessels transporting oil and petroleum products, weapons, and military personnel.

The document amends the Law of Ukraine "On Sanctions" regarding the application of sanctions to vessels and aircraft whose activities pose real and potential threats to the national interests, national security, territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine.

The Security Service of Ukraine and intelligence must establish the facts of the use of such vessels. And the State Register of Sanctions must include information about all entities, as well as vessels and aircraft, to which sanctions have been applied.

As reported by Ukrainian Energy, the United Kingdom has imposed sanctions on nearly 140 vessels of the shadow fleet. The new restrictions increase pressure on Russia's critically important oil industry.
