Russian troops carried out massive shelling of one of the thermal power plants (TPP)
"The enemy carried out massive shelling of one of the thermal power plants," the press service of the Ministry of Energy said in a statement.
The attacked station has no relation to military facilities, the Ministry of Energy emphasizes.
"Such targeted attacks are yet another proof of the aggressor's terror and genocidal policy. This is yet another attempt to intimidate Ukrainians and deprive us of light and warmth," the message says.
Energy workers are working to eliminate the consequences of the attack, the Ministry of Energy says.
As a reminder, the Russians have sharply intensified shelling of energy infrastructure facilities since March 22, 2024. Since then, the enemy has periodically launched missile and drone strikes on power plants, main substations and power grids, as well as on gas enterprises.
As a result of a massive Russian attack on April 11, 2024, the Trypillya Thermal Power Plant, owned by PJSC "Centrenergo", was completely destroyed. Thus, the company lost 100% of its own generation.
On March 22, 2024, the Zmiivska TPP "Centrenergo" in the Kharkiv region was completely destroyed. And on July 25, 2022, Russian troops occupied the Vuglehirska TPP in the Donetsk region.
DTEK Group lost 80% of its generating capacity due to large-scale Russian attacks on March 22 and 29. On April 11, the equipment of two of its thermal power plants also suffered serious damage.
As reported by "Ukrainian Energy", according to the Minister of Energy, as of June 2025, energy companies have already restored more than 5 GW of heat generation out of 10 GW that were damaged during Russian attacks on thermal power plants during the full-scale invasion.
