Russian attacks may cause gas shortage in Ukraine - Zelensky

03 June 2025

The issue of purchasing a resource worth almost a billion euros in Norway is being discussed

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has warned that Ukraine could face a gas shortage due to large-scale Russian attacks on gas infrastructure.

He announced this during a briefing with journalists on Monday, June 2, in the evening, reports "Economic Truth".

"There were massive attacks on gas storage facilities and production facilities. We lost some of the capabilities, which we are now gradually restoring," the Head of State said.

According to him, Ukraine has already found part of the required volume of gas, but almost half of the reserves are still not enough to fully cover needs.

"We agreed with the Minister of Energy that we will look for ways to close this deficit, which may arise if everything is not restored, if we cannot fully provide our population with gas," said Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

The President also added that the purchase of gas worth approximately one billion euros is being discussed with the Prime Minister of Norway.

As reported by "Ukrainian Energy", the gas transmission system operators of Bulgaria, Greece, Moldova, Romania and Ukraine have agreed on a scheme for the supply of American liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Greece to Ukraine via the Trans-Balkan Corridor.
