21 October 2024

As a result of the war, they reached 65 billion dollars

To date, more than 6,000 environmental crimes of the Russian Federation worth more than 65 billion euros have been documented. This was announced by the Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine Svitlana Grynchuk during a conference in Helsinki on point 8 on environmental security of the Ukrainian Peace Formula.

The official stressed that these data are not final and will grow as long as hostilities continue. And therefore:
- liberated territories cannot be restored until they are demined. Currently, 139,000 square kilometers of our territory are mined;
- only in 2024, fires destroyed more than 24,000 hectares of forest;
- estimated environmental damages from the criminal actions of the Russians on the Seim and Desna rivers are already estimated at 12 million euros;
- The Black and Azov seas also suffer from the consequences of the war. Currently, losses for Ukraine are estimated at 345 million euros.

"In addition to unified financial instruments, the environmental component of the Peace Formula provides for restoration according to the most modern "green" principles. This will ensure the green transition of our state and a new standard of living for all Ukrainians according to European standards," added Svitlana Grynchuk.

As "Ukrainian Energy" reported, on September 1 of this year, the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine estimated the damage to nature from the military aggression of the Russian Federation for six months at UAH 962 billion.
