EU foreign ministers agree to extend sanctions against Russia

27 January 2025

Restrictions on Russia will remain in effect for another six months

EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaia Kallas stated that on January 27, the heads of EU foreign policy departments agreed to extend the sanctions imposed against Russia for another six months.

She announced this on the social network X.

In particular, Kaia Kallas wrote: "Europe is delivering: EU foreign ministers have just agreed to extend sanctions against Russia again. This will further deprive Moscow of revenues to finance its war. Russia must pay for the damage they are causing."

As reported by "Ukrainian Energy", Hungary may approve EU sanctions against Russia under certain conditions. Budapest is ready to make concessions in exchange for a statement of Hungary's concerns about "energy security".

Russia is concerned about a possible drop in oil prices, which could affect the war in Ukraine.
