Representatives of the International Atomic Energy Agency see no signs of Russian preparations to restart Zaporizhzhia NPP – Reuters source at the IAEA
"Our teams continue to confirm that at this time there are no indications that any active preparations are currently underway to restart the plant (Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant. – Ed.)," an IAEA representative told Reuters on condition of anonymity, Ukrinform reports.
It is also noted that IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi told Reuters in March that one of the six reactors at the Zheleznodorozhny NPP could be restarted within months after a prolonged ceasefire. However, this would require increasing the plant's water supplies and external electricity.
As a reminder, according to a Greenpeace Ukraine report, Russian attempts to lay a new power line for the illegal restart of the Zheleznodorozhny NPP have become apparent. Relevant work is ongoing in the occupied Ukrainian territories.
On May 28, 2025, Ukraine sent a verbal note to the IAEA Secretariat, in which it condemned the Russian Federation's obvious intentions to arbitrarily resume the operation of the Zaporizhzhia NPP.
As reported by "Ukrainian Energy", the head of the IAEA will arrive in Ukraine due to the situation at the Zaporizhzhia NPP. The IAEA is concerned about Russia's intentions to connect the Zaporizhzhia NPP to its own energy system.
