According to the final results of the fourth long-term special auction, from December 1, 2026, up to 236 MW of additional capacity will help balance the Ukrainian power system
"Taking into account the final results of four special auctions for the purchase of ancillary services, NPC Ukrenergo has purchased a total of up to 788 MW of capacity, which should help balance the power system," the transmission system operator's press service said.
In general, according to the results of special auctions for the purchase of auxiliary services of the automatic frequency restoration reserve (AFRR) (so-called fast reserves), the construction of 863 MW of completely new generation facilities was guaranteed, Ukrenergo informs. The deadline for commissioning these reserves (depending on the results of the special auctions) is from August 17, 2025 to October 17, 2026.
According to the final results of the fourth long-term special auction, held on May 27, 2025, up to 236 MW of additional fast reserves will participate in balancing the Ukrainian power system from December 1, 2026.
14 out of 21 winning companies paid the financial security, thus guaranteeing compliance with the construction and commissioning deadlines for the new generating equipment.
The weighted average price of the proposals confirmed by financial support was:
● load services — 951.06 UAH / MW;
● symmetrical reserve services — 786.95 UAH / MW.
The expected savings for the power system operator over 5 years (assuming prices remain unchanged) will amount to almost UAH 5 billion.
As a reminder, the fourth long-term special auction for the purchase of ancillary services for a period of 5 years was held on May 27, 2025. It purchased automatic frequency restoration reserve (AFRR) services - one of the key tools for ensuring stable and trouble-free operation of the power system. A total of 52 companies took part in the auction - both market participants with existing generating capacities and investors planning to build gas piston, gas turbine power plants, biomass generation facilities and energy storage systems. All of them must be able to change power at the command of the dispatcher within 15 minutes.
As reported by "Ukrainian Energy", on July 3, electricity consumption in Ukraine shows a growing trend due to rising air temperatures in most regions.
