The screening is an important stage in the negotiation process for Ukraine's accession to the EU and will determine further steps in the implementation of the EU under Chapters 15 "Energy"
Ukraine and the European Union have begun screening Ukrainian legislation as part of negotiations on European integration, the Ministry of Energy reports.
The screening is an important stage in the negotiation process for Ukraine's accession to the EU and will determine further steps in the implementation of the EU acquis under Chapters 15 "Energy" and 21 "Trans-European Networks," the ministry noted.
A presentation of the current state of implementation of EU legislation in areas such as energy efficiency, gas market, security of supply, renewable energy and trans-European energy networks took place in Brussels on July 8. The Ukrainian side outlined the main challenges in the implementation process and informed about the needs for support from the European Union.
Representatives of the European Commission noted Ukraine's good progress in the gas, electricity, market design, and institutional capacity building sectors.
Among the initiatives proposed by the Ukrainian side are strengthening cooperation between the national energy regulator and the Agency for the Cooperation of Energy Regulators (ACER); including Ukraine as an observer in EU bodies developing energy legislation; accelerating the connection of the Gas Transmission System Operator of Ukraine to the EU Database (Union Database); integration of energy markets, etc.
As "Ukrainian Energy" reported, the European Parliament has tightened control over the import of Russian gas. From now on, competent authorities that control the procedure for pumping gas reserves into storage facilities in each EU country must provide information on the share of Russian gas in such reserves.
