12 June 2025

The European Commission has officially adopted a roadmap that envisages a gradual cessation of imports of Russian gas, nuclear energy and oil – DiXi Group

The European Commission has officially adopted a roadmap that envisages a gradual cessation of imports of Russian energy resources – gas, oil and nuclear fuel, according to the DiXi Group think tank.

It is emphasized that this strategic document has become an important step in the implementation of the REPowerEU plan, aimed at achieving the European Union's full energy independence from Russia in a coordinated and secure manner, while ensuring the stability of supply and prices throughout the EU.

The report states that according to the roadmap, EU member states must prepare national plans to phase out imports of Russian gas, nuclear energy and oil by the end of 2025. Efforts to accelerate the energy transition and diversify supplies are also ongoing to minimize risks to security of supply and market stability.

The think tank emphasizes that in terms of nuclear energy, the European Commission took into account the proposals of the DiXi Group think tank, which proposed putting pressure on the Russian nuclear industry from 2022.

In particular, the European Commission's roadmap for the nuclear sector provides for:

- a ban on new contracts and joint projects with Rosatom and its subsidiaries;
- a gradual withdrawal of Russian nuclear fuel from the European market;
- tightening sanctions on key Rosatom enterprises that support Russia’s military sector;
- terminating cooperation with Rosatom in the field of research into new nuclear technologies, in particular small modular reactors;
- restricting imports of enriched uranium and other nuclear materials from Russia, including control over contracts approved by the Euratom Supply Agency (ESA);
- launching the Radioisotope Valley initiative to ensure the EU’s own production of medical radioisotopes.

As "Ukrainian Energy" reported, scheduled outages are in effect in the Kherson region due to enemy shelling. Due to the attack of Russian UAVs, the regional energy authority in Kherson region imposed power supply restrictions. Due to the bad weather in Ukraine, 76 villages in three regions were without power.
