The enemy used more than 40 missiles of various types, as well as more than 70 attack drones - Zelensky
The target of massive shelling by Russian troops on January 15 was once again the Ukrainian energy sector. The strikes were directed at gas infrastructure and energy facilities.
This was announced by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on his Telegram channel.
"Another massive Russian strike. The middle of winter, and the target for the Russians remains unchanged: our energy system. Among the targets are gas infrastructure and energy facilities that ensure the normal life of people. More than 40 missiles were involved in this strike, including ballistics. At least 30 were destroyed. There were also more than 70 Russian strike drones overnight. Thanks to our air defense, all the units involved, we are maintaining the operation of our energy system," he noted.
At the same time, the head of state emphasized that Ukraine constantly needs to strengthen the existing capabilities of the Ukrainian air shield.
"Partners at the NATO summit in Washington and in the Ramstein format made promises that have not yet been fully implemented. We also talked about licenses for the production of air defense and anti-missile systems, which can become one of the effective security guarantees for Ukraine, and this is also realistic and must be fulfilled," Volodymyr Zelenskyy wrote.
The President also expressed gratitude to everyone who helps Ukraine and emphasized that this is not just about our country. In his opinion, it is now through the defense of Ukraine that it becomes clear whether Europe and the democratic world in general are capable of stopping wars - reliably and for a long time.
Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, in turn, informed that thanks to the air defense forces, the Russian scenario once again failed. "The power system is operating stably. Thank you to the defenders for their professionalism," he wrote.
As MP Serhiy Nagornyak, a member of the parliamentary committee on energy and housing and communal services, noted on "KYIV24", the enemy tried to cause an explosion and fire at a gas storage facility in western Ukraine, but he failed.
"It (the gas storage facility. – Ed.) is located deep underground. Last year, there were precedents when the Kinzhal missile aimed, buried itself at minus 10 meters, but it did not explode," the people's representative noted.
According to him, Russian attacks may partially damage the ground-based equipment of gas storage facilities, but it has no strategic significance for Ukraine's gas transportation system.
"They (the Russians. – Ed.) are not achieving the goals they have. I don't know how the Russian military is trying to argue to Putin that they will supposedly be able to blow up our gas storage facility. They don't have enough strength for that," Nagornyak is sure.
As reported by "Ukrainian Energy", emergency power outages were imposed in several regions of Ukraine due to a massive missile attack on the morning of January 15. They were later canceled in Dnipropetrovsk and Donetsk regions.
