The IAEA evaluated Ukraine's nuclear energy plans

17 October 2024

We will be able to have one of the largest nuclear power programs

Ukraine will once again have one of the largest nuclear power programs in Europe. This was said by the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, in his video address to the participants of the International Conference "Nuclear Opportunities for the Development of the Country: Wartime and Postwar Reconstruction", which was organized the day before by Energoatom.

Raphael Grossi reminded of the support of Ukraine before the start of the war and assured that the help will continue to come long after its end. In particular, the IAEA had more than 140 missions of support and assistance for Ukrainian power plants - ZANP, KhaNPP, RANPP, PANPP and ChNPP.

"The IAEA works in close cooperation with Energoatom, the State Inspectorate for Nuclear Regulation and the Ministry of Energy. I often meet with Petr Kotin and Herman Galushchenko," said Grossi.

In his speech, the Director General of the IAEA emphasized the protection of Ukraine's nuclear energy infrastructure: "We must preserve this important source of electricity for Ukraine today and in the post-war period. I promise that we will be there to help Ukraine increase the capacity of the Khmelnytsky NPP through the construction of new power units."

According to him, the world is refocusing on nuclear energy in order to transition to green energy and improve energy security - and Ukraine will not be left behind. "We will be there for the recovery. Ukraine will once again have one of the largest nuclear energy programs in Europe," Grossi emphasized.

As "Ukrainian Energy" reported, тhe National Commission for State Regulation in the Energy and Utilities Industry (NKREKP) called the information disseminated in the mass media about the threat of stopping the import of electricity from the European Union an outright manipulation.
