Electricity consumption in Ukraine increased due to rainy weather

26 May 2025

On Monday, May 26, electricity consumption from the general network increased by almost 8% due to low efficiency of solar power plants in cloudy weather

According to the press service of NPC Ukrenergo, as of the morning of May 26, the level of electricity consumption in Ukraine was 7.9% higher than at the same time of the previous working day - Friday, May 23.

The reason for this is cloudy weather with rain in most regions of Ukraine, which causes low efficiency of household solar power plants (SPPs) and a corresponding increase in energy consumption from the general network, Ukrenergo explains.

Yesterday, Sunday, May 25, according to the transmission system operator, the daily maximum consumption was recorded in the evening. It was 4.9% lower than the maximum of the previous Sunday, May 18. This is due to significant warming across the entire territory of Ukraine.

Ukrenergo also reports that due to rain and gusts of wind, 32 settlements in two regions were completely or partially without electricity on the morning of Monday, May 26. They plan to restore power to the disconnected subscribers by the end of the day - the regional energy company's repair teams have already begun emergency restoration work.

Ukrenergo emphasizes that the Ukrainian power system continues to recover after massive Russian missile and drone attacks. Emergency restoration work at power facilities is ongoing.

Since the situation in the power system may change, follow the messages on the websites and official social media pages of your distribution system operator (oblenergo), the system operator reminds.

As reported by "Ukrainian Energy", on the morning of the previous working day, Friday, May 23, due to clouds and rainy weather, the level of electricity consumption in Ukraine was more than 5% higher than at the same time the day before.
