Ukraine's three operating nuclear power plants have reduced electricity production after renewed Russian attacks on the country's energy infrastructure, further jeopardizing nuclear safety in times of war, IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi said.
"For the second time in less than two weeks, the Khmelnytskyi, Rivne and Yuzhnoukrainska nuclear power plants have reduced their power levels as a precautionary measure during large-scale military operations in the country," Grossi said.
The nine reactors operating at these plants have reduced their power.
In addition, one reactor at the Rivne NPP was disconnected from the grid.
The NPPs receive electricity from outside, despite the fact that the Khmelnytskyi NPP lost contact with two power lines.
"Ukraine's energy infrastructure is extremely fragile and vulnerable, which puts nuclear safety at great risk. I once again call for maximum military restraint in areas with large nuclear power facilities and other facilities on which they depend," said Director General Grossi.
As reported by "Ukrainian Energy", on the night of November 28, Russian troops attacked critical infrastructure - electrical substations in various regions of Ukraine.
