The European Commission has confirmed the high level of implementation of EU legislation in the field of energy by Ukraine
This is stated in the Report on the EU 2024 enlargement package published by the European Commission, the press service of the Ministry of Energy reports.
The Report assesses the approximation of Ukrainian legislation to current EU law, as well as Ukraine's ability to assume obligations related to membership in the European Union.
Thus, in Ukraine, legislation on renewable energy sources and the National Energy and Climate Plan were adopted, and the Decarbonization Fund was created to support energy efficiency and renewable energy programs.
In addition, the legislation on nuclear safety and radiation protection was harmonized with Euratom norms, and the company "Energoatom" was transformed into a joint-stock company with the approval of the supervisory board.
The Report also noted that last year's recommendations of the European Commission were partially implemented and remain relevant. In particular, in the near future Ukraine has:
• to continue promoting the transition to "green" energy through the implementation of the National Energy and Climate Plan, the adoption of a market-based legislative and regulatory framework for investments in RES in accordance with the commitments undertaken, and the resolution of debts owed to RES producers;
• continue reforming the electricity market, take the next steps regarding the implementation of the regulation on integrity and transparency of the wholesale electricity market (REMIT);
• strengthen the independence of the NCRECP;
• bring the electricity trade taxation system into line with EU legislation.
The Ministry of Energy expresses its gratitude to international partners for their support in the restoration of the energy sector and the implementation of reforms and confirms its intentions, within the limits of competence, to implement the recommendations of the European Commission as soon as possible. The necessary legislative initiatives will be presented in the near future.
As "Ukrainian Energy" reported, transmission system operators of continental European countries will increase the maximum capacity of electricity imports by Ukraine and Moldova from 1,700 to 2,100 MW from December 1.
