The head of the State Agency for Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving spoke about it
Energy efficiency is one of the pillars supporting the sustainability of Ukraine's energy system, and its investment potential currently amounts to 50 billion euros.
This was stated by the Head of the State Agency for Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving of Ukraine, Hanna Zamazeyeva, during the German-Ukrainian business forum in Berlin, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
“Every Ukrainian and every businessman in Ukraine understands how important energy efficiency and energy saving measures are, especially given the daily power outages. This is one of the pillars of maintaining the stability of our energy system, thanks to which we can reduce energy consumption and pressure on the system itself,” said Zamazeyeva.
She believes that Ukraine has great potential in this area.
"The investment potential of this sector in Ukraine is currently estimated at over 50 billion euros. The equipment currently used is outdated or inefficient. For example, in industry, energy consumption per year is estimated at approximately 9.4 billion euros. In the transport system, energy consumption is about 9 billion euros. In the household sector, it is about 3.6 billion euros," the head of the State Agency gave details.
According to Zamazeyeva, these are significant costs that can be reduced by encouraging foreign investment in this industry. In particular, the newly created Decarbonization Fund of Ukraine is engaged in this.
"The volume of the Decarbonization Fund in 2024 is set at 1.4 billion UAH, and the forecast volume for 2025 is about 1.75 billion UAH. This fund is replenished at the expense of taxes on CO2 emissions. It is clear that this is not enough for a complete transformation of energy efficiency," the official noted.
As Ukrainian Energy reported, it is expected that in 2025, the Decarbonization Fund JSC will receive UAH 1.75 billion in revenues. These funds will come from a carbon tax.
