Russia attacks electricity import equipment

Ukraine is witnessing targeted attacks by Russian troops on electricity import infrastructure and significant damage to cross-border lines. This was announced by Deputy Minister of Energy for Digital Development, Digital Transformations and Digitalization Roman Andarak during the Ukrainian Energy Security Dialogue.

According to him, approximately two days before the massive shelling, the Russians carried out a very powerful cyberattack on all energy industry enterprises.

"The biggest challenge is the systematic attacks on energy infrastructure - more than a thousand attacks. The energy sector has become a targeted target of aggression. Power plants, thermal facilities, and distribution networks are being attacked. This is an impressive scale of destruction, and these actions are aimed not only at depriving people of light - this is a kind of psychological attack," Andarak said.

He emphasized that strikes on substations, which play a key role in transmitting electricity to nuclear power plants, are particularly dangerous.

"Attacks on infrastructure for importing electricity. For us, this is a life-saving measure from the European Union. We see targeted attacks on this infrastructure that ensures imports and significant damage to cross-border lines," Andarak said.

In addition, fossil fuel extraction is a challenge for Ukraine.

"The fighting has significantly affected the production of natural gas, coal, and oil. We see the availability of equipment as a challenge. The repairs we carry out require the supply of equipment, and it is damaged daily, especially in front-line regions. This equipment is not that available on the market. Certain equipment is manufactured for quite a long time, and this is also a risk for us, a challenge that we are trying to combat," Andarak said.

As "Ukrainian Energy" reported, as a result of the extreme Russian massive attack on November 28, 12 hits were recorded. Mostly - at facilities in the fuel and energy sector.
