Rockets do the most damage
Heavy metals from munitions cause enormous damage, including spoiling soils and water resources. And the substances included in ammunition have a very negative impact on the environment in Ukraine.
The First Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine, Olena Kramarenko, said this in an interview with RBC-Ukraine.
"Heavy metals - mercury and lead, which are part of the compounds used to detonate explosives. Quantitatively, the most important compounds in conventional ammunition are explosives. These are TNT, octagen, sulfur, hexogen and tetryl. All of them pose a threat to health people," the official said.
The deputy minister emphasized that rockets cause the most damage. Their fuel poisons the soil and water, causes chemical pollution of the environment. Fires cause air emissions, atmospheric pollution, and they also destroy the fertile soil layer. Substances can enter groundwater, wells and rivers.
As "Ukrainian Energy" reported, more than 6,000 environmental crimes of the Russian Federation were documented, which caused damages in the amount of more than 65 billion euros.
