June 6 marks two years since the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station was blown up by Russian troops
Ukrhydroenergo is ready to restore the Kakhovka HPP immediately after the liberation of the occupied territories. This was stated by the acting general director of Ukrhydroenergo, Bohdan Sukhetsky, on the air of Suspilny, according to the Ukrhydroenergo Telegram.
He recalled that the explosion of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station dam caused a serious shortage of water resources in southern Ukraine, damaged the environment, stopped shipping, and created a deficit of balancing capacities in the energy system.
Bohdan Sukhetsky also reported that as a result of the dam collapse, Ukrhydroenergo loses from 6 to 8 billion hryvnias in lost profits from the sale of electricity every year.
"The world did not respond appropriately to this disaster, and this gave Russia the opportunity to continue attacks on hydropower infrastructure facilities," the acting director of Ukrhydroenergo emphasized.
He added that the restoration of the Kakhovka HPP should include the construction of modern hydraulic structures that will meet the highest environmental standards. The reconstruction should be carried out in the interests of the state and future generations: "The full cycle of construction and commissioning of the Kakhovka HPP - approximately five years, filling the reservoir - up to two," added Bohdan Suhetskyi.
As reported by "Ukrainian Energy", the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and the UN presented a report on the damage from the collapse of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station dam. Direct damage to Ukraine's infrastructure and assets is estimated at $2.79 billion, and losses are over $11 billion.
