In August 2019, JSC Ukrtransgaz (UTG) tested the launch of the Soyuz main gas pipeline section to operate in the west-east direction. The company's press service reports.
"This has in no way affected the transportation of natural gas to EU countries – Gazprom's transit requests have been fully implemented," UTG assured. - "The test results recorded the stable operation of the equipment and all gas-pumping units, thus confirming the readiness and ability of the reverse scheme to function in a regular mode."
The company is preparing for a possible interruption of the Russian gas transit in 2020 and checks GTS operation in reverse mode.
Ukrtransgaz worked out the mode of gas transportation from the western border (Slovakia) to Bohorodchany junction. "The volumes of transportation in the reverse direction have reached the maximum of import capacity from Slovakia – 42.5 million cubic meters of gas/day," the company assured.
For the purpose of receiving gas via Budince GMS (Slovakia), for the first time the reverse connections of Khust CS and Bohorodchany CS were involved.
Recall that in 2019 contracts between Naftogaz and Gazprom for the purchase and transit of Russian gas will expire. Against the background of Gazprom's construction of gas pipelines bypassing the Ukrainian GTS, there is a risk of stopping or restricting transit through Ukraine.
