Producers pumped 1 million cubic meters of biomethane into the network

09 January 2025

In 2024, two bioenergy companies loaded the first million cubic meters of biomethane into the Ukrainian network and underground gas storage facilities – Chairman of the Board of BAU

Ukrainian producers have already pumped the first million cubic meters of biomethane into the underground gas storage network, said Heorhiy Geletukha, Chairman of the Board of the Bioenergy Association of Ukraine (BAU), during a press conference at the Interfax-Ukraine news agency on the topic "Sun, wind, biogas: how "green" energy will help Ukraine survive in 2025" on Thursday, January 9.

"Currently, these two companies (VITAGRO and Hals-Agro. - Ed.) have already pumped 1 million cubic meters of biomethane into Ukraine's underground gas storage facilities. That is, we can state that 2024 provided the first million cubic meters of biomethane to the network and underground gas storage facilities," he said.

Heorhiy Geletukha noted that this is not yet an export, it is a small batch:

"And buyers want to see larger batches, so companies are accumulating volumes in underground storage facilities, and as soon as a certain level is reached, they will start exporting it," the head of BAU explained.

As reported by "Ukrainian Energy", in early December 2024, the company "Hals Agro" became the second among Ukrainian biomethane producers to start supplying fuel to the Ukrainian gas transportation system (GTS). The first to launch its own biomethane to the Ukrainian GTS was the Vitagro Group of Companies in October last year.
