This is the first pilot project of twin cities aimed at supporting the energy sustainability of communities
Within the framework of the partnership between the cities of Hlobyne and Grafenwerth, Austria, 2 million euros will be allocated for the installation of solar panels, the press service of the Ministry of Energy reports.
Also, in cooperation with the regions, the department prepared an Investment Atlas, which includes over 150 regional energy projects, - said Energy Minister Herman Galushchenko during the III International Summit of Cities and Regions to join the implementation of the presented initiatives.
It is noted that it is precisely for investment development that the Ministry of Energy initiated the strategic implementation of Regional Energy Sustainability Passports in 2024, which emphasize the individual potential of each region in relation to various energy sources. And the state has introduced tools to support these opportunities. The next step is to ensure the balanced development of all types of energy sources, taking into account regional specifics and potential.
The head of the Ministry of Energy also noted that Ukraine's energy sector has become one of the main targets of the Russian Federation's full-scale armed aggression. In 2024 alone, Ukraine's energy infrastructure was subjected to 13 massive missile and drone attacks, and according to experts, the Russian Federation spent about 1.3 billion euros on just one of them.
"We have already withstood three military winters. And we are preparing again - for the fourth. We are looking for solutions to strengthen the country's energy sustainability, and decentralized generation is one of our answers. Local generation, which will cover the critical needs of each region, is an important component of the energy sustainability of both individual communities and the country as a whole," said Herman Galushchenko.
The Minister of Energy emphasized that Ukraine has significant investment potential in the energy sector and is open to involving international partners in the implementation of projects to develop distributed generation in the field.
As reported by "Ukrainian Energy", on June 9, 508 settlements in nine regions of Ukraine were left without power due to bad weather. Electricity consumption in the country has increased.
