The transfer of nuclear equipment will help solve Ukraine's electricity needs

The United States has a practical interest in the successful transfer of Bulgarian nuclear reactors to Ukraine to complete the two unfinished units of the Khmelnytsky NPP #3 and #4.

This is reported by the Atlantic Council.

"As part of efforts to fill power generation gaps created by targeted Russian attacks, Ukraine and Bulgaria are currently pursuing an agreement to transfer surplus nuclear equipment intended for Bulgaria's Belene NPP to Ukraine's Khmelnytsky NPP. This will allow the completion of reactors 3 and 4 at this station," the article says.

After Bulgaria refused to start the process of installing Russian equipment at the Belene NPP, the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine and Energoatom quickly saw an opportunity. They saw that Bulgaria is currently the only country in the world that has a surplus of Russian nuclear equipment needed to complete the unfinished units of the Khmelnytsky NPP.

Given that Ukraine began building two unfinished units a few years ago using Russian technology, two options were envisaged: completely abandon the units and their power generation, or gain access to equipment belonging to Bulgaria to safely install these components in cooperation with Western partners of Energoatom in the nuclear industry. to increase electricity production in Ukraine. In the process, this could lead to new shared experiences that will help countries around the world reduce and eventually end their dependence on Russia's Rosatom.

As "Ukrainian Energy" wrote, IAEA specialists will advise on the progress of the construction of power units of the Khmelnytsky NPP.
