In Ukraine, work is underway to make the "Vertical Corridor" more effective

19 June 2025

The GTS operator, under the coordination of the Ministry of Energy, is working on expanding routes for additional gas imports to Ukraine

The GTS operator of Ukraine, in coordination with the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine, is working on expanding routes for additional gas imports to Ukraine, as well as ensuring its transportation through the Ukrainian GTS to the countries of Central and Eastern Europe, the Ministry of Energy reports.

"In particular, the OGTSU, together with the GTS operators of neighboring countries, is working to ensure the long-term commercial competitiveness of the Vertical Corridor," the department notes.

"Having a common product - the transportation of gas from other countries, in particular from Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, to Ukraine using an economically advantageous tariff, we can increase the capacity and tariff revenues of each of the participating countries, as well as ensure the receipt of a resource of non-Russian origin, which corresponds to the EU strategy," said Mykola Kolisnyk, Deputy Minister of Energy of Ukraine. "This is a way to integrate our existing infrastructure into the pan-European one on fairly competitive terms and with a resource to cover the consumption of Central and Eastern Europe."

It is noted that new opportunities for supply diversification were discussed at the Energy Transition Summit: East Med & Southeast Europe, jointly organized by the Financial Times and the Greek newspaper Kathimerini.

The next monthly auction will be held on June 23, 2025.

Mykola Kolisnyk called on traders to actively participate in product booking. At the end of 2024, the guaranteed capacity was set at 7 million m³ per day. The parties are currently working on increasing the guaranteed capacity to 11.5 million m³ per day in 2025.

As reported by "Ukrainian Energy", Russian attacks are not the reason for low gas reserves in storage facilities, says Oleksandr Kharchenko, director of the Energy Research Center. According to him, since the beginning of the full-scale war, Ukraine has been using its gas reserves and has not been replenishing them through imports.

The Ministry of Energy and Naftogaz are preparing for the autumn-winter period of 2025/2026: during the preheating season, a sufficient amount of fuel is being accumulated in underground gas storage facilities (UGS) to get through the winter as safely as possible.
