The utility company "Kyivteploenergo" applies fines to debtors, and property may also be seized
Debts for heating and hot water in Kyiv have exceeded UAH 7 billion. This was reported by the company's municipal enterprise "Kyivteploenergo" ("KTE"). The company applies penalties to debtors in the form of fines and additional charges.
As explained by "KTE", the company is forced to sue debtors who have been neglecting payments for years. Many of them are owners of luxury homes or several apartments, whose financial situation allows them to pay for utilities.
For example, Kyivteploenergo reported two record-breaking debts recorded in the capital: an elite apartment with an area of 175 sq. m accumulated over 310 thousand UAH in unpaid utility bills. The debtor was fined 48 thousand UAH, so the amount to be paid was almost 360 thousand UAH.
For another luxury apartment with an area of 171 sq. m, where utility bills were not paid: the debt is 330 thousand UAH. The fines imposed on the debtor amounted to more than 50 thousand UAH, so he must pay more than 380 thousand UAH to the company "KTE".
The company emphasizes that Kyivteploenergo immediately refers such cases to court. In the event of forced collection, the overpayment will be 25% more than the amount of the debt. Accounts and property may also be seized.
As reported by "Ukrainian Energy", electricity consumption in Ukraine is decreasing due to clear weather. However, energy experts are urging people to use powerful electrical appliances from 10:00 to 16:00 if possible.
