Forecasters predict an abnormally warm winter

17 October 2024

Average readings of thermometers in winter will range between -5 and +5 degrees

Winter in Ukraine will be unusually warm. Such a forecast was made by the head of the Department of Applied Meteorology and Climatology of the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Institute of the State Emergency Service and the National Academy of Sciences, Vira Balabukh.

She noted that an anticyclone will cause abnormal weather on the territory of our country. Therefore, the winter will be much warmer than the previous ones.

The scientist explained that a powerful anticyclone has formed in the Atlantic, pushing warm air from the subtropics to Ukraine and leading to temperatures that are unusual for our climate zone.

Average readings of thermometers in winter will range between -5 and +5 degrees. This is 1-2 degrees above the norm.

Balabukh emphasizes that the trend of increasing winter temperatures has been observed over the past several decades. And it is becoming common for the weather in January to approach that which is typical for November.

In the next winter of 2024-2025, arctic invasions are possible, which will cause a sharp cooling for several days. In general, the winter period will be mild and warm, moderate temperatures will prevail - as it was last year.

As "Ukrainian Energy" wrote, Ukraine has more than 12 million cubic meters of gas reserves. This is enough to survive the winter.
