Electricity consumption increased due to cold weather and cloudiness

03 January 2025

On Friday morning, electricity consumption in Ukraine was almost 10% higher than at the same time yesterday, Thursday, January 2

"Today, January 3, electricity consumption, as of 9:30, was 9.7% higher than at the same time the previous day - on Thursday, January 2. This is explained by the decrease in temperature and cloudy weather in most regions of Ukraine, which reduced the efficiency of household solar power plants," the Ukrenergo NPC said in a statement.

Yesterday, January 2, the daily maximum consumption recorded in the evening was 6.8% lower than the maximum consumption level on Tuesday, December 31. This is explained by the higher air temperature in most regions of Ukraine, according to Ukrenergo.

The transmission system operator recalls that the Ukrainian power system is currently continuing to recover after 13 massive missile and drone attacks by Russians over the past 2024. Emergency restoration work is ongoing at energy facilities.

"Energy engineers are doing everything possible to restore the damaged equipment to service as soon as possible and replace the equipment destroyed by the enemy," Ukrenergo assures.

At the same time, Ukrainians are urged to monitor information on the websites and official social media pages of regional distribution system operators (oblenergo), as the situation in the country's energy system may change.

As reported by "Ukrainian Energy", electricity consumption in Ukraine on Wednesday, January 1, was at the level of a weekend. The reasons are a decrease in industrial and business activity on the first day of the year, increased air temperature, and sunny weather in most regions.
