Naftogaz wins arbitration against Gazprom for $1.37 billion

24 June 2025

An international arbitration tribunal ordered Russian PJSC Gazprom to pay $1.37 billion in favor of NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine

"The international arbitration tribunal, which considered the case in Switzerland, ordered Gazprom to pay $1.37 billion in favor of NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine," Serhiy Koretsky, Chairman of the Board of Naftogaz, reported on his Facebook page.

He recalled that since May 2022, Gazprom has violated its contractual obligations under the "take or pay" principle by stopping payments. And in September 2022, Naftogaz initiated arbitration, which Gazprom tried to block through Russian courts.

"It didn't work. Now we have a final decision: a tribunal of arbitrators from Sweden, Switzerland, and Israel completely sided with Naftogaz," stated Serhiy Koretsky.

The head of Naftogaz noted that this was an important victory and thanked the company's professional team of lawyers and legal advisors of Wikborg Rein for this result.

According to him, at the next stage, Naftogaz will work step by step to ensure the implementation of the arbitration decision.

As Ukrainian Energy reported, Naftogaz paid over UAH 38 billion in taxes in 5 months of 2025. In particular, in May, Naftogaz Group enterprises sent over UAH 7.8 billion in payments to budgets of all levels.
