Imported gas will be available for sale on the Ukrainian Energy Exchange (UEE) platform from May 20
From May 20, 2025, new conditions for the section that allows trading in imported (customs-cleared) natural gas, “Imported Natural Gas” (previous name – “Purchase of Imported Natural Gas”), came into force on the Ukrainian Energy Exchange, the UEB press service reported.
It is noted that the new opportunities are that from now on the seller can also initiate a starting position. Only residents of Ukraine can participate in such auctions.
To help ensure the flow of imported gas to Ukraine, it was decided not to apply a commission fee to the buyer in this section, the UEB added.
"UEB is quite flexible in responding to participants' requests and always tries to offer the market exactly those opportunities that are needed at a specific time. Given the importance of proper preparation for the next heating season, we have introduced the possibility of selling in the section for trading imported gas. Such changes, in our opinion, will create conditions for intensification of trading in this section and attracting to Ukraine an import resource that is urgently needed during a deficit. Preferential conditions for buyers should somewhat stimulate Ukrainian companies in terms of a long-term gas supply strategy," commented O. Kovalenko, General Director of UEB, on the changes.
As reported, from the beginning of 2025 to May 5, Ukraine imported 1.12 billion cubic meters of gas, which is almost 10 times higher than the figure for the same period in 2024.
As reported by "Ukrainian Energy", еlectricity consumption in Ukraine increased due to rainy weather. On Monday, May 26, electricity consumption from the general network increased by almost 8% due to low efficiency of solar power plants in cloudy weather.
