DTEK received the first shipment of liquefied gas from the USA

30 December 2024

D.TRADING, DTEK's European trading subsidiary, has purchased the entire cargo of the vessel "Gaslog Savannah" with a volume of about 100 million cubic meters

On Friday, December 27, DTEK Energy Holding received the first shipment of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the state of Louisiana (USA), which was delivered to the Revitus LNG terminal in Greece by the vessel "Gaslog Savannah", DTEK's press service reports.

D.TRADING, DTEK's European trading subsidiary, has purchased the entire cargo. This is approximately 100 million cubic meters, or 1 TWh of energy. Together with Greek and other partners, the LNG will be regasified and transmitted through the gas networks of the European Union and Ukraine.

The delivery is part of a broader effort to strengthen Ukraine’s and Europe’s energy security by reducing dependence on Russian gas. The delivery comes just days before Ukraine is set to terminate an agreement to transit Russian gas to the EU through its territory.

D.TRADING plans to receive a number of more such supplies from the USA and seeks to expand its LNG activities to northern Europe and the Baltics.

"The arrival of this LNG shipment is a clear signal of DTEK's determination to contribute to strengthening the energy security of Ukraine and Europe. Such cargoes not only provide the region with a flexible and secure source of energy, but also further weaken Russia's influence on our energy system. We are very grateful to the United States for the strategic contribution they make to Europe's energy security through such deliveries," said DTEK CEO Maksym Timchenko.

D.TRADING is shipping its first cargo through Greece due to war-related restrictions on LNG transit across the Black Sea and directly to Ukraine. The company will therefore use regasification terminals such as Revitusa, together with cross-border pipelines such as the Vertical Corridor initiative, which transports gas between Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia, Moldova and Ukraine.

As reported by "Ukrainian Energy", President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukraine will not transport Russian gas to Europe after the expiration of the relevant agreement on December 31, 2024. Ukraine may consider the option of gas transit from another country if Russia does not receive money for this gas before the end of the war.
