Minister of Foreign Affairs Andriy Sybiga responded to the Financial Times publication about record volumes of imports of liquefied natural gas from Russia to the European Union
Andriy Sybiga, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, called for a ban on the import of Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG) to the European Union in order to "not finance the criminal regime of the Russian Federation," the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reports.
The Foreign Minister reacted to the Financial Times publication that during 2024, EU countries imported a record amount of Russian LNG.
"This is unacceptable. Imports of Russian LNG gas to the EU should be banned as part of further sanctions and replaced with supplies from the US and other partners," the head of the foreign ministry said.
He emphasized that there are enough alternative sources of supply on the market that can be used "so as not to finance the criminal Russian regime along with its aggression, war crimes, and hybrid attacks."
As reported by "Ukrainian Energy", D.TRADING, a European trading subsidiary of the DTEK energy holding, will develop liquefied gas trade in Europe. On December 27, the company received the first batch of fuel. It bought the entire LNG cargo of about 100 million cubic meters, delivered from the USA to the Greek terminal by the vessel "Gaslog Savannah". This delivery is part of more global measures aimed at strengthening the energy security of Ukraine and Europe by reducing dependence on Russian gas, DTEK says.
