Over the past decade, the number of district heating consumers in Ukraine has halved. This has been driven by imperfect government policies, a lack of proper maintenance, growing gas debts of district heating companies and low tariffs. All of this has led to a critical deterioration of the networks, with heat losses reaching 20-30% in some places.

But with so many long-term problems, should Ukraine abandon district heating? The experience of EU countries shows that it should not. There is a way to modernize and reduce heating costs. What could it be for Ukraine and our local communities?

During the event we will discuss the current state of district heating, why it is important to use it and what the benefits are. We will find out about the successful experiences of foreign partners from Europe and the USA, we will learn about the positive cases in Ukraine, how and what from this can be implemented and expanded during the war.

The panel discussions will focus on:

The importance of central supply for the development of the Ukrainian energy sector. The state of the district heating system and the ways to overcome the crisis. State policy.

International experience: evolution of district heating in Europe and the USA. The use of geothermal energy for district heating.

New approaches to business development. Heat pumps in district heating systems.

Practical steps to develop district heating: donor and government support. Local communities that are ready to pilot geothermal energy projects. Legislative changes.

We invite local communities, representatives of relevant government agencies and utility companies, journalists, business and industry experts to actively participate.

You can join the event by pre-registration

Among the speakers: representatives of the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine, the Ministry for Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development of Ukraine, The National Commission for State Regulation of Energy and Public Utilities, the Ukrainian State Agency on Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving, the European Committee of the Regions (CoR), the European Geothermal Energy Council (EGEC), ReWarm Ukraine, district heating companies, representatives of Ukrainian cities and municipalities and others.
