Russian gas transit stopped - Ministry of Energy
This was done in the interests of Ukraine's national security
In the interests of national security, the transportation of Russian natural gas through the territory of Ukraine has been stopped, the Ministry of Energy reported. This happened at 7:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 1, 2025.
"Ukraine has duly informed international partners about this," the department said in a statement.
"We stopped the transit of Russian gas, this is a historic event. Russia is losing markets, it will suffer financial losses. Europe has already made a decision to abandon Russian gas. And the European initiative Repower EU provides for exactly what Ukraine has done today," emphasized Energy Minister Herman Galushchenko.
Since January 1, the gas transportation system of Ukraine has been operating in a mode of no transit of Russian gas. The infrastructure of the gas transportation system has been prepared in advance for operation in a mode of zero transit and reliable gas supply to Ukrainian consumers.
As reported by "Ukrainian Energy", Ukraine may consider the option of gas transit from another country, given that the Russian Federation will not receive money for this gas until the end of the war.
DTEK has received the first shipment of liquefied gas from the USA. D.TRADING, DTEK's European trading subsidiary, has purchased the entire cargo of the vessel "Gaslog Savannah" with a volume of about 100 million cubic meters. m
