Parliament approves the corporatization of Energoatom

The Verkhovna Rada adopted in the second reading draft law No. 8067 on the corporatization of the state-owned enterprise NNEGC “Energoatom”.

“Today, 6 February 2023, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine approved in the second reading the draft law on Joint Stock Company “National Nuclear Energy Generating Company “Energoatom”. 259 MPs voted for the relevant decision,” the message of Energoatom reads.

The document proposes to determine the procedure for the establishment of Joint Stock Company “NNEGC “Energoatom”, 100% of whose shares will belong to the state, and the procedure for the formation of the authorized capital and the functioning of this company.

The draft law on the corporatization of Energoatom was adopted in the first reading on 19 October 2022.

As reported by Ukrainian Energy, the staff of the Verkhovna Rada registered draft law No. 8067 on Joint Stock Company “National Nuclear Energy Generating Company “Energoatom” submitted by 12 MPs in September 2022.

It is expected that the implementation of this document will allow Ukraine to fulfill its international obligations and establish a joint stock company of the public sector of the economy. As a result – to increase the efficiency of the functioning of Ukraine’s energy industry and the competitiveness of the Ukrainian operator of nuclear facilities.

The corporatization of Energoatom is provided for by the loan agreement between the company and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the guarantee agreement “Comprehensive Generalized Program for Increasing the Safety Level of Nuclear Power Plant Units” ratified by the Verkhovna Rada.

Energoatom is the operator of all four nuclear power plants of Ukraine. It operates the Zaporizhzhia, South Ukraine, Rivne and Khmelnytskyi nuclear power plants with 15 power units with a total installed capacity of 13.8 GW.
