Households can choose from among 230-plus suppliers in the gas market: Kryvenko

08 September 2020

Suppliers can offer consumers various products that have difference price, delivery period, payment terms, etc.

After opening the gas market for households, Ukrainians can choose from among 230-plus suppliers in the market, Oksana Kryvenko, member of the National Energy and Utilities Regulatory Commission, said during the webinar "Launch of the retail gas market: what should consumers expect?", Ukrainian Energy reports.

In 2019, there were 249 gas supply companies in Ukraine, 37 of which supplied gas under special obligations. In 2020, when the special obligations were abolished effective 1 August, households received an access to a large number of suppliers.

Therefore, Mrs. Kryvenko said, consumers now have the choice of supplier.

“The license issuance and revocation process is dynamic, and the number of suppliers may change from week to week. However, consumers definitely have the choice of more than 230 suppliers,” Oksana Kryvenko said.

She noted that suppliers can offer consumers various products that have difference price, delivery period, payment terms, etc.

I hope that all suppliers will compete for consumers, providing better-quality and cheaper service,” Oksana Kryvenko stressed.

She also added that households must be able to change a supplier free of charge.

“The only thing is that a consumer must settle their financial obligations to the previous supplier,” the NEURC member said.

The webinar “Launch of the retail gas market: what should consumers expect?” was organized as part of USAID’s Energy Sector Transparency project implemented by DiXi Group.
