The military is constantly changing the routes of the systems to avoid strikes by the Russian army - President Zelensky
Ukraine is investing in strengthening air defense, protecting gas infrastructure, decentralizing energy, and developing innovative solutions to combat drones, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on June 11 during the Ukraine-Southeast Europe summit in Odesa.
"First of all, I want us to have an open understanding of what energy security is for Ukraine. In any case, as soon as there is no surplus — which is rarely the case when it is very hot or very cold — we become vulnerable," Zelenskyy is quoted as saying by Suspilne Odesa.
The President recalled that in winter, the Russian Federation is intensifying attacks on energy infrastructure: "We are talking about electricity and various types of generation, distribution stations, nuclear and thermal generation, gas infrastructure, gas storage facilities - there are a lot of such attacks."
Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed that air defense remains the most important shield for the energy sector. He chose it as the first priority for protecting Ukraine.
"Defense is air defense. I will not say what systems we have and where they are located, and what energy they protect. As soon as the enemy understands what air defense systems we have, he tries to attack them. Therefore, we are constantly changing the routes of our air defense systems," the President noted.
Zelensky also reported that Ukraine is actively working on new developments that will help combat drones more effectively: "We have some new developments that are at the testing stage, and we are actively seeking additional funds for the mass production of such systems. One of these areas is the creation of interceptor drones, which are aimed at neutralizing enemy drones."
The President of Ukraine also noted that the process of decentralizing the energy system is ongoing, but without details. At the same time, Ukraine is coordinating with partners to protect gas infrastructure and increase gas reserves: "We discussed this issue with the leaders, because there were attacks on storage facilities, gas infrastructure, and gas production. We are helping the private sector and asking for help from the leaders with additional volumes of gas to our gas storage facilities."
As reported by "Ukrainian Energy", the Russians are still building a power line between occupied cities. Greenpeace Ukraine has released new satellite evidence regarding the potential restart of the ZNPP.
