The dirt was spotted in the Katranka recreational area near the Danube Biosphere Reserve and the Tuzlivski Limany National Nature Park
After storms, fuel oil spilled after the accident of Russian tankers in the Kerch Strait was carried by a storm onto a sandbank in the Katranka recreational area near the Danube Biosphere Reserve and the Tuzli Estuaries National Nature Park in the Odessa region.
Ivan Rusev, head of the scientific department, doctor of ecology of the Tuzlivski Limany National Nature Park, wrote about this on Facebook.
The scientist notes that "the consequences of such environmental disasters have no limits and thousands of tons of fuel oil that have entered the sea will cause great harm to the natural ecosystems of the Black Sea and its biodiversity."
"Against the backdrop of the disaster from the collapse of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station dam, this ecological disaster will become another negative and significant addition to the gradual loss of life in the Black Sea," warns Ivan Rusev.
The National Park team is currently conducting surveys of various areas of the embankment and intends to continue to provide information about the extent of the contamination.
Recall that on December 15, 2024, as a result of an accident involving two Russian tankers, tons of fuel oil spilled into the Black Sea, just like in 2007. This caused widespread pollution of the sea.
