Ukraine increased gas production by 2.2% in 2024 – Prime Minister
The companies produced over 19 billion cubic meters of gas last year. The strategic goal is to increase production to over 20 billion cubic meters in the coming years
"Gross gas production in 2024 increased by 2.2 percent compared to 2023, to more than 19 billion cubic meters of Ukrainian gas," Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said during the "government question hour" in the Verkhovna Rada on January 10.
According to him, the strategic goal for the coming years is to increase gas production to over 20 billion cubic meters.
Denys Shmyhal also emphasized that the government has set the task for the Ministry of Energy and Naftogaz of Ukraine to pay special attention to the development of the concept "Ukraine - the gas safe of Europe."
According to calculations by the consulting company ExPro, gross natural gas production in Ukraine in 2024 reached 19.12 billion cubic meters, which is 2.2% more than in 2023 (18.7 billion cubic meters).
The main volumes were provided by state-owned companies that are part of the Naftogaz Group.
In particular, according to ExPro, the state-owned JSC "Ukrgazvydobuvannya" (UGV) produced 14.55 billion cubic meters of gross natural gas in 2024, which is 4.6% more than in 2023. (over 13.9 billion cubic meters). These are the highest production volumes of "Ukrgazvydobuvannya" since 2019, when the company produced 14.9 billion cubic meters.
During 2024, PJSC "Ukrnafta" produced 1.17 billion cubic meters of natural gas, 6.6% more than in the previous year (almost 1.1 billion cubic meters). For the company, these are the largest volumes of natural gas production since 2016. During 2024, "Ukrnafta" continued to increase the volume of drilling, overhauls and other operations, which allowed to increase natural gas production.
At the same time, private companies in 2024 reduced the volume of natural gas production by 8% - to over 3.4 billion cubic meters, ExPro calculated.
As Ukrainian Energy reported, the enterprises of the Naftogaz Group - JSC Ukrgazvydobuvannya and PJSC Ukrnafta - together produced over 13.5 billion cubic meters of gas in 11 months of 2024.
