"Hals Agro" exported biomethane for the first time

25 June 2025

The company exported almost 73 thousand cubic meters of biomethane through the Hungarian gas transportation system. The buyer of the fuel was the German company Uniper

LLC "Gorodishche-Pustovarivska Agrarian Company" (GOPAK), part of the "Hals Agro" holding, on Tuesday, June 24, exported biomethane of its own production for the first time, the consulting company ExPro reports, citing its own sources.

According to ExPro, the company exported almost 73 thousand cubic meters of biomethane stored in Ukrainian underground gas storage facilities (UGS) via the gas transportation system through Hungary. The buyer of the biomethane was German Uniper.

"Hals Agro" became the third Ukrainian exporter of biomethane (after "Vitagro" and MHP).

For the first time, biomethane was exported from Ukraine by the company "Vitagro" (February 7, 2025), ExPro reminds. On February 11, MHP joined it. Another company from the MHP Group began exporting liquefied biomethane (bio-LNG) in May. In total, Ukrainian companies have already exported about 835 thousand cubic meters of gaseous biomethane to Europe.

Hals Agro launched the production of the first industrial biomethane in 2023 at the Lynovytskyi biogas complex. In November 2024, the company began pumping biomethane to Ukrainian underground gas storage facilities.

The Ministry of Energy is currently finalizing a package of supporting documents regarding already completed biomethane export transactions. These materials will form the basis for the final assessment of Ukraine's readiness to report within the European Database (UDB), the Ministry of Energy says.

The European Database (UDB) is one of the main tools for ensuring transparency and traceability of the circulation of renewable gases in the European Union. The Ministry of Energy is currently preparing the integration of the Ukrainian gas transmission system into the UDB in order to expand the presence of Ukrainian producers in the EU biomethane market.

As Ukrainian Energy reported, three more enterprises intend to produce biomethane in Ukraine. Currently, four plants are operating, exporting biomethane to Europe.
