There may be no light for up to 8 hours
The winter in Ukraine is predicted to be the hardest in the last three years. Acting head of Ukrenergo Oleksiy Brecht said this in an interview with Suspilno.
NEC "Ukrenergo" is preparing for three options for the autumn-winter period of 2023-24.
The worst scenario is the continuation of massive Russian attacks on generation facilities.
"In the conditions of this scenario, with the amount of electricity imports that we already have today, we can have electricity capacity restrictions on critical, cold days, in the amount of two rounds of blackout schedules up to 8 hours," Brecht emphasized.
In the spring, Ukraine lost 9 GW of generating capacity due to the shelling of the Russian Federation, which is equal to the summer electricity consumption of the Netherlands, or Ukraine's nighttime electricity consumption in the summer.
According to Brecht, this is a "significant loss", Ukrenergo has a plan to restore these capacities.
As "Ukrainian Energy" reported, transmission system operators of continental European countries will increase the maximum capacity of electricity imports by Ukraine and Moldova from 1,700 to 2,100 MW from December 1.
