Brovary in Kyiv region received a 260 kW cogeneration plant from USAID

09 December 2024

The installation was moved to one of the facilities of the Brovaryteplovodoenergiya KP. This is one of the steps towards ensuring the city's energy independence.

KP "Brovaryteplovodoenergiya", which provides water and heat supply to residents of Brovary, located in the Kyiv region, received from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) the first cogeneration unit with a capacity of 260 kW for the production of heat and electricity, Ukrainian National News (UNN) reports.

Cogeneration plants are an innovative solution that allows for the simultaneous production of thermal and electrical energy, which significantly reduces dependence on external energy sources.

"Our community continues to stay on course for maximum optimization of effective energy independence... In the near future, we expect two more installations that will significantly enhance the energy stability of our thermal power plants," said Brovary Mayor Ihor Sapozhko, expressing gratitude to American partners for their assistance in strengthening the city's energy sustainability.

As explained by Vladlena Borovska, Deputy Director of the KP "Brovaryteplovodoenergiya", thanks to the cogeneration plant, the utility will have its own electricity, which will allow for uninterrupted supply of thermal energy to consumers.

Vladlena Borovska also said that the local authorities have been cooperating with the Americans since 2022.

According to her, the municipal enterprise plans to receive two more cogeneration units. They will be much more powerful than the first one – 600 and 1200 kW.

In addition, on the way to Brovary's energy independence, solar panels have already been installed or are being installed at some facilities of the Brovaryteplovodoenergiya utility company, where possible, and the local authorities plan to develop this direction further, Vladlena Borovska reported.

As "Ukrainian Energy" reported, the Ministry of Energy has amended the Instructions on the compilation and application of the General Power Distribution Plan in order to ensure a fair and uniform order of distribution of the use of available capacity and electricity among consumers.
